Intel has confirmed to shut down the 'New Devices Group (NDG)' which includes the Vaunt smart glasses project that I already posted on my blog earlier this year.

"Intel is continuously working on new technologies and experiences. Not all of these develop into a product we choose to take to market. The Superlight [the codename for Vaunt] project is a great example where Intel developed truly differentiated, consumer augmented reality glasses. We are going to take a disciplined approach as we keep inventing and exploring new technologies, which will sometimes require tough choices when market dynamics don’t support further investment." Intel said.

Intel pursued the same style as regular glasses all the time, and it made consumers expected. In that sense, the Superlight(another name of Vaunt) project can be a groundbreaking example where Intel really want to develop the reality glasses that consumer truly want.

Although they had a partnership with Oakley and Tag Heure which can help to wearables experience, it is hard to found mass-market success.

It is so disappointing that Vaunt could not get a chance to show up in the market. Intel spent lots of time with lots of people to make that Vaunt really looks like the normal glasses, comfortable, and simple. As a result, the prototype version of Vaunt that we can see through the video was so attractive. So I hope that I can see the groundbreaking product like this in the future day again. Even more, I look forward to seeing these innovative products in the not-too-distant future.
